Audience Research

:
Age:
The majority of horror films are either 15 or 18 by the bbfc rating, but just because they have these age boundaries it doesn't mean that they are the only audience. I would say that horror films are aimed at 15-25 year olds.

Gender:
I would say that predominately males watch horrors however a small number of females watch them too. This is because usually the male plays the dominate role with movies. However times are changing and linking to the 'final girl' theory the females are lasting the longest and destroying the antagonist. This is making females more interested in seeking out horrors because they're no longer taking a back seat, they're taking on dominant roles.

Class:
The majority of people who watch horrors are predominately from the working class population. This is believed to be due to the thrill and excitement that they create. The image below is the statistics of the most enjoyed genre. And if you look at the social class C2 which is skilled manual occupation, and they enjoy horror the most out of the social classes. There are 43% of them who love it whereas the other social classes are below 35%.

From looking at audiences:
From researching and looking at statistics I know now that horrors are mainly watched by the working class, mainly males, however the population of females that watch them are rising. So maybe for our narrative we should choose something that would appeal to a female market more that male, to challenge conventions and stereotypes. Thrill seekers between 15 and 25 watch horrors mainly, they enjoy the thrill of being afraid.
