What lies beneath


0:00 - 0:24 During the first twenty-four seconds of the trailers we are shown a close up shot of a couple, expressing love for each other. We are also shown a pan shot of a house which is near a lake and is in an isolated area. The house is shown to us using a lot of shadowing around it which expresses mystery towards the audience, and foreshadows that maybe darkness lurks within the property.  This is showing the first step of the Tzvetan Todorov theory. The close up shot used of the couple is showing the equilibrium within this theory. This is because its showing a balance in power between the couple and they both seem extremely happy to be in each others arms.
0:43 This again links to the Tzvetan Todorov theory as the characters are starting to be disrupted, this is shown when the artificial lighting goes out, this is shown by the lights blowing. This is done because the audience least expects it as we have just seen a couple enjoying their life, so the audience is more likely to be afraid as they won't see it coming.
0:44 - 1:00 The disruption continues for the character, as the female character gradually gets hints to what is happening. This adds enigma to the audience because we don't know what hints the character is receiving because we only receive glimpses in the trailer, this makes us want to what the movie more to understand what she is seeing.
1:00 - 1:08 We find out what the disruption is, this makes us want to watch the film because we want to find out how the character reacts and what is she going to do about it. And what does this have to do with whats been happening to the female character. This also adds a sense of mystery because you can't find the answers without watching the film, so you have to watch the film.
1:20 - 1:30 This shows some attempt for the characters to resolve to arising issue, we witness arguments, broken glass, doors opening on their own, close up shot of the female character looking very afraid.
1:31- 1:50 The music picks up its pace, the music is synchronous sound with the panic that is expressed on the female characters face. We also have a lot of use of text, the text is also presented on the movie poster that was published.
1:51 - 2:15 The music moves more towards ambient sounds as the music picks up paces to does whats happening on the screen, there is a lot of fast cut aways used in the editing of numerous incidents that may occur in the movie. This adds enigma because we don't fully grasp whats going of because the images are fast, which would encourage anyone watching the trailer to go and watch the film.
2:16 - 2:30 The is a lot of darkness surround the female character which suggest that something evil is grasping onto her. The black connotes fear and death. Could the shadowing be forshadowing death? We don't know so thats why we want to watch it to find out, the trailer intrigues us and makes us curious to know what happens.
